# Retention

> What the chat keeps, for how long, and how ephemeral chats work.

| Conversations | Until you delete them. Encrypted with a key per conversation |
| Ephemeral conversations | Not saved. Gone when you close them |
| Files attached in the chat | 30 days, or until you delete them |
| Files sent to `POST /v1/files` | 1 hour |
| API prompts and responses | Not stored. Only metadata |
| Live stream of a running answer | 1 hour after it ends, so a reload can resume |

Deleting your account destroys the conversation keys, so encrypted conversations cannot be read afterwards.
